During hypnosis, you relax your mind and body, moving past the guard of your conscious mind, to the subconscious mind. While your conscious mind constantly edits, grades and judges your thoughts and inputs, your subconscious mind is a sponge waiting to absorb whatever you give it.
Helen calls the conscious, judging part of the mind, the “doubting Thomas.” You have probably said to yourself in the past that you can do this – be it stopping smoking, losing weight, public speaking or anything you can think of. Your gut, your inner voice is cheering you on. This is your subconscious, where anything is possible and all is believed. But your “doubting Thomas” is saying, “Oh yeah, how many times have you said this? You know you want that cigarette or cookie or don’t want to go to the gym.”
In hypnosis, by allowing yourself to go into an altered state of consciousness, you have allowed your conscious mind to take a nap, a back seat, to rest. Now Helen, as your guide, is able to talk directly to your sub conscious – which believes and trusts confidently what it hears without prejudice. Your subconscious mind also helps to control physical impulse needs and this can be cleared and replaced with healthy needs.
Your subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between reality and imagination. Therefore, if you can get past the locked gates of your conscious mind to your subconscious mind, you can feed the subconscious “imagined reality.” So if you can imagine yourself as a slim or a non-smoker, your subconscious mind will accept that as reality.
Hypnosis is the key to removing barriers your conscious mind places in front of you and reaching the subconscious.
